Blurb:
Lyssa Taylor totally thinks she has her future planned out. Being eighteen with strict parents, a relationship is the last thing on her mind.

But when she and her best friends arrive at the cabin for their last summer vacation, the handsome Travis Preston—her secret childhood crush, and best friend's (off-limits) older brother—is also there.

Now, what was expected to be a simple, fun vacation, turns out to be one spark-igniting, complicated mess.

My Review:
~~5 out of 5 stars~~

**This book can be read as a standalone (which is how I read it), although it is written in novella form with other authors, each writing a novella set in a different year of the 80’s**

Let us start with Cameo Renae’s ability to make me cry.  She’s always been very good at it.  This time?  I wasn’t able to read this book without constant Kleenex.  It wasn’t necessarily because of sadness, it was also laughter too.  I adored this story, and I adored each and every character.

Although this was her first NA Contemporary Romance, you would think she had always been writing them.  It was a sweet, romantic, funny, and sometimes sad story.  Although it was set in the 80’s, it still hit very powerfully emotional times we have all hit in our lives – dealing with deaths of loved ones past and present, and that all important stage in life where it’s time for you and those you’ve spent your life growing up with to move on in different directions after high school.  Even harder, is when you have someone you’ve loved for a long time, or even someone you’ve just begun to love, and you feel like you have to choose between that person or your future.

This book was incredibly emotional, but so many times in such a positive way.  It shows how much each and every person and experience in your life when you’re younger helps you become who you are, and it’s your choice if it’s a positive one.

Then there’s Travis…I can’t see how you can’t fall in love with him immediately.  He’s had a rough time in life, but there’s no denying his positive qualities that draw you in immediately.

I’ll stop here before I give too much of the book away, but I will say I read this book in one sitting, and it didn’t at all feel like a Novella.  It felt like a full novel – and I mean FELT.  SO MANY FEELINGS.  Such a sweet story that I may even read again!

~~BOOK REVIEW~~ Reclamations (BBS #3) by Wendi Kelly & Deborah Dorchak

Blurb:
The secrets of the past have been unearthed and with them, lives torn apart, exposed, and laid to waste. An ancient bloodline struggles to survive the chaos, violence and warped beliefs fostered over a hundred years.

Diego vowed to take care of Selene Flynn, bringing his enemy’s daughter into the Pack to assure her protection. No one knows what lengths the Senator will go to get her back, or the sacrifices Diego will make to keep her safe. The promise has been made and the Pack will pay the ultimate price in reclaiming what was lost. Devastation looms on the horizon and their lives will never be the same.

Selene’s destiny is tangled with the Prince Regent, Drew Cavanaugh. Both raised for one purpose: To provide an heir for the evil Tau Regency. Can she trust the dark haired stranger with the velvet voice, even though he was raised and trained by her father, Robert Flynn, or should she stay loyal to the Pack that has put their lives on the line for her?

Bitter enemies are thrown together in an age-old battle against time, power and evil.

My Review:
~~5 out of 5 stars~~

This is one of my most difficult reviews to write because there’s SO much that happened that I’m dying to share, but I don’t want to give any spoilers.  But most importantly? GET YOUR TISSUES READY.  The best way to put it is to say there’s a major change that takes place that makes you cry over and over.  You cry when you see it coming.  You cry when it happens.  And when you finally think you can move on when it happens, you keep getting reminded and cry again.  The weird part?  It’s still a good cry – every time.  It makes you realize how much each of these characters and everything they go through affect you.  They’ve become a sort of odd coupling of family, but they feel like they’ve become your own family as well.

Of course, there’s never only ONE event that happens in these books.  This poor group always has several things going on at once.  Some are good, as different friendships and relationships grow, and as the individuals themselves grow.  However, there’s always someone out there that doesn’t want their lives to be easy.  And when you bring a lioness into your family that never knew she had her future planned out in a not so nice way by her not so nice father, things get much more complicated.

One of the best things about reading these books in this series is that you never even have a clue about who will survive, who will have a happy ending, or even WHAT the happy ending is – you think a happy ending should be one way, and find out it’s possible for two different endings to be happy, so you have no idea how it will end – and I mean NO idea.  In these books, there’s several different levels of a happy ending, and the end of THIS book will definitely surprise you, but when you give it more thought, you realize these people aren’t just PEOPLE…they’re half animal.  Therefore, their lives aren’t going to be lived exactly the same as ours.

The bottom line is that when it comes to this series, you will never see what’s coming – and you’ll love it!  If you’re like me, and tend to predict what’s going to happen long before it does, it’s very likely that won’t happen here.  There ARE some things the authors hint towards, where there’s something that’s going to happen in a character’s future, but it’s like they’re only throwing you a bone to make you feel like you’re predicting things, but they’re really just setting it up for you. ;-)

I love this series more and more with each book, and am already heavily into the next.  They’re long reads – real NOVELS – and I savor all the time I read them, and knowing each day that I get to delve back into their world each night!

Snippet:

She removed her hand and petted his stomach as if he were a docile panther. Simon discovered restraint he never knew he had.

Ella’s fingers moved down and fondled a tiny bulge in his pocket. “What’s this?”

Simon carried a miniature chess piece in his pocket—a queen to be exact. “Love, that’s not the piece I want you to stroke.”

She looked up at him, her lips pursing together. “Shhh.”

Women never took control of Simon this way, and just the thought of it made him so weak with lust that he wasn’t sure he’d be able to hold out for the actual act.

Ella went down on her knees and pressed her lips against the stretched leather covering his erection. He nearly lost it. Images flooded his mind of sliding somewhere warm and wet. Suddenly his throat went dry. He flattened his palms against the wall behind him, intoxicated by her unpredictable nature. There was no sense in taking over and trying to dominate her in the bedroom; her needs were nonnegotiable.

From Titans Excerpt:
Nick sprang from behind and pounded on the invisible wall. “You crazy bitch! Let my brother go.”

Hades held him back. “You’ll have to excuse him. He’s been going a bit crazy looking for his brother. I’m sure you understand.”

Eris glared and hissed, showing her perfect white teeth. “Don’t be a fool, Nick, or you’ll never see your brother. But he’s not really your brother. Isn’t he just a half-brother? Anyway, I can’t wait to call you brother-in-law. We’ll become one happy family.” She showed off her white teeth but didn’t smile.

Nick covered his ears. “Over my dead body.”

“Now, now. Behave, little one,” she scolded, waving her finger. “Or I just might give you what you wish for. Death is permanent, you know…at least for your kind.”

Nick growled, and light shot from his fingertips. Everett held him back. When Zeus gestured with his hand, Nick stilled.

Zeus focused on Eris again. “Where’s Cronus? Tell him to show himself.” His calm tone sounded confident, but I knew he feared his father.

“Cronus isn’t here.”

“Liar!” Zeus sent the lightning from his staff. It flashed into the invisible wall and burst in brightness, blinding us, but it didn’t penetrate the wall.

Eris laughed, like Zeus had told the funniest joke. “I’m the goddess of my domain. You can’t hurt me here. I call the shots, Zeus. Funny how the roles are reversed. I kind of like that. But don’t worry. You’ll see him soon enough—or not. When I say so. So, would you like to come to my party, or are we going to argue all day?” Eris brushed the side of her hair, smirking. “It’s funny how Zeus is begging to come to my party. It was the other way around before.”

“I’m not begging,” Zeus growled, his eyes crackling with electricity. His rage shook the ground. “You’re forcing me to come. Get this over with before I do something I won’t regret. And to clarify: It wasn’t my wedding. I didn’t send out the invitations, but if I had, I wouldn’t have invited you anyway.”

Eris threw a daggered glare at Zeus and waved her hand. As the invisible wall started to disintegrate, a new world materialized.

~BOOK BLITZ~ The Harvest Saga by Casey L. Bond

Title: The Harvest Saga Box Set
Author: Casey L Bond
Genre: YA Dystopian
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Blurb:
Reap (Book 1): The remnants of the United States of America have been divided.

From five enormous, technologically-advanced cities, the Greaters rule over the Lessers. In the Lesser village of Orchard, things are not as perfect as Abby Kelley thinks they are. When the apple harvest draws near and the Greater’s engineered fruits become too much for one village to handle alone, reinforcements from neighboring villages are called upon.

Having to choose between her best friend, whom she has no romantic feelings for, and mysterious newcomer Crew, Abby finds herself in the middle of a harvest that she had no intention of becoming a part of. She becomes involved in a situation that threatens the strict rule of the Greaters, and just might give the Lessers hope for a better tomorrow. But, can she help the Lessers without losing Crew? And if she chooses Crew, will she lose her best friend?

Resist (Book 2): Abby Kelley returns home from the Greater city of Olympus to find that things in Orchard Village are bad, very bad. The Olympian Guard has taken over village affairs. The Lessers are being worked to the bone in the coldest winter Orchard has seen. Villagers are being dragged away for the slightest indication of what they call “resistance.” She needs to keep her head down and her mouth shut. But, it’s so hard to do when everything within you screams rebellion.

Kyan is coming on strong, trying to convince her to take a chance on him. Shocking news of Crew’s activities in Olympus sweeps through the Villages. When Abby is taken away by the Olympian guard, Kyan sends word to Vesuvius for help. But, no one could have predicted their idea of help or what they might expect in return.

Who will be left to pick up the pieces of Abby’s heart?

Reclaim (Book 3): The Greaters have ruled over the Lessers since The Fall. They’ve taken Abby’s family. They’ve taken her friends. They’ve taken her hostage and threatened the villages.

Enough is enough. Freedom is worth fighting for. Love is worth dying for.

And the Lessers are done taking orders from the Greaters.

Reclaim…the epic conclusion of the award-winning Harvest Saga.

A SLAM JOLTED ME OUT of my slumber. Another bang echoed in the front of the cabin, and footsteps hurried to my door. I didn’t know how long I’d slept, or if it was still daylight, but I was still tired and wanted to retreat back into the sweet abyss again. My door opened, and I turned my head to see my aunt standing in the doorway.

“What happened, Abby?” She rushed over.

I tried to push myself up, but my back was so stiff. The skin even felt stiff. How was that possible? I winced.

“Stay down. Let me see.” She gingerly lifted the back of Ky’s shirt and peeked underneath. The fabric slowly peeled away from my skin where the bandages Evelyn had applied didn’t quite reach, or had shifted, and it felt like part of the wounds tore open again. A hiss escaped from between my teeth at the same time a curse flew from her lips.

“Evelyn sent more salve. She said that your body would absorb part of it and that more would have to be packed in.” Lulu helped me sit up and, one by one, I unbuttoned the shirt and again pried it away from my back. The only portion not torn to shreds from the fifteen lashes was the part my bra had covered; although, by the last lash, it only hung on by a thread.

“Evelyn came to the depot. She said you’d been injured and gave me the medicine and salve. I had no idea. Did Norris do this?”

All I could do was nod.

Lulu took my shirt as I laid back down on my stomach and tried to remain as still as possible while she packed my wounds. Having left the room, I could hear her banging around in the kitchen before she returned with a steaming mug containing more of the special tea. I gulped it down, hoping it would help numb the pain like it had before. When my head hit the pillow, I fell asleep almost immediately.

Something was touching my face, caressing my cheek. The skin that brushed mine was rough, hardened by the work we all shared. Am I dreaming?

I waited, trying to see if it was real or part of a dream. Whichever it was, it was nice, comforting.

Rough fingertips moved over the parts of my back that weren’t split open and packed with gunk. I sucked in a breath and held it. It was real. I moved my head and saw his silhouette against the candlelight flickering in from the kitchen and living room. “Ky?” My voice was raspy and barely sounded like my own. Sleep and exhaustion filled every chord.

“Shh. I’m here.” Suddenly, I was very aware I was lying shirtless on my bed. Even though I was on my stomach, that didn’t help me feel any less naked in front of my best friend—who happened to be a member of the male species—a very fine specimen according to my girlfriends.

I knew he was handsome. I wasn’t blind. But I didn’t see him like that. He’d dated many of my friends and was getting ready to marry Paige Winters after the harvest was complete and the orchards picked bare. His fingertips traced the intact skin between my shoulder blades, and I tensed under his touch.

He’d kissed my head and temple and hugged me more times than I could count, but that was different; it was more intimate. His touch was delicate, gentle compared to his normal strength, and anything but playful. “Ky?”

He didn’t answer. His fingers explored my back, careful not to stray too close to the wounds streaking across my skin. “Kyan?”

“Shut up, Abby. Just let me... Just shut up.” He’d never talked to me like that. His voice was raspy, and he’d never, ever told me to shut up before. So I did. I wasn’t sure why. He shouldn’t have been touching my skin. Shouldn’t have been caressing the good parts left; but, sitting with me in the dark, he was doing exactly that, and I was allowing it.
