~ SALE BLITZ ~ Push and Pull ~ by Emily Cyr

Title: Push & Pull
Author: Emily Cyr
Genre: Adult Paranormal
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Book one in The Vampire Favors Series:
Never make a deal with a vampire. It always comes back to bite you; or so Addison Fitzpatrick has learned. In true Addison-fashion, she'd angered a drug dealer; she may have "forgotten" to pay him. Just when it was time to pay the piper, she was offered a way out by an unlikely being. Cannon Blackwood, master of vampires, made her an offer she couldn't refuse. Now, Addison owes Cannon three favors.
Seven years after that fateful meeting, just as Addison's life is getting back on track, Cannon calls in one of the favors she owes him. There is a new drug that threatens the very existence of the vampire race and Cannon needs Addison, along with his brother Lachlan, who happens to be a professional thief, to steal it and destroy any evidence of it.
Not only is the future of the vampires on the line, but with both Cannon and Lachlan vying for her attention, her heart is as well. Addison has difficult choices to make and dangerous favors to repay if she wants to see the light of another day.

Emily Cyr is a stay-at-home mom turned writer. She holds a degree in middle grades education with certification in English and social science. She has always had a love of all things paranormal and fantasy, but it wasn’t until Emily’s husband said the words, “Why not?” that she considered putting her thoughts and ideas into the book, The Lightning Prophecy. This trilogy was just the start for Emily. It seemed to open a creative door that had been locked.
Emily has always been an avid reader. Through reading came her love of writing. The more she read, the more she knew she wanted to create her own world. Many of her first works were fan fiction.
Emily and her family currently reside in Cibolo, Texas. She has an incredibly supportive husband who is also an officer in the United States Air Force. They have three sons, ages 6, 4, and 1. Somehow, even with the demands of being a parent to two little boys, she finds time to escape to her fantasies and write them down.

~ BOOK REVIEW ~ Wicked Grove ~ by Alexia Purdy

Wicked Grove (Wicked Grove, #1)

Most places, supernatural nuisances are easy to exterminate, but in Wicked Grove, magic runs wild.

As operatives of the elite Wicked Grove Supernatural Regulatory Agency, three fiercely independent and unstoppable siblings, Amy, Jay, and Craig, know the risks that come with the job. Get contaminated by one of the magicals, and you’re screwed. Scratched by a werewolf? You’re going to be howling come full moon. Bitten by a vampire? You might as well stamp “bloodsucker” on your face. You certainly won’t be welcomed at the agency anymore. It’s a no-brainer.

When Amy is captured by a malevolent faery tribe unlike any encountered before, the race is on to rescue her before she’s assimilated and lost forever. These creatures are not easily swayed, but there is one who can possibly help her escape. He also wants to return to the human realm, and he is tied to the faery tribe. It might backfire, but with Amy’s memories fading with each passing moment, she’s forced to make a desperate choice which could incite an unprecedented preternatural war and destroy all of Wicked Grove.

This is the first installation of a new, breakneck, supernatural thriller series from USA Today Bestselling Author Alexia Purdy.

~My Review~
5 out of 5 Stars!

When the blurb for this book describes this new series as “breakneck”, there is absolutely no exaggeration there!  From the very beginning of the book, we start with Amy, Jay and Craig preparing for a mission and hitting the ground running.  From that moment on, there is very little time to even take a breath as a reader.  This was an incredibly quick read, because I was so immediately drawn in and immersed in this book.  I didn’t want to put it down.

There is so much that is happening throughout this story on 2 fronts: the Agency, and the supernatural world they are there to regulate.  However, especially when it comes to the supernatural world, you never know what you can expect, who you can trust, are where the line is between right and wrong.  The one thing that was never a question was how close these siblings were, and whenever questions would arise, the three of them could always depend on each other and trust each other, even when those around them doubted them.  You could feel it as a reader, and I never doubted it.

I loved how much ‘gray area’ the author put into this book.  Even though you know what the Agency’s job is, and you know there are supernatural beings breaking agreements, you really feel along with these three siblings that maybe there are times where they should be questioning how they are required to handle things, and maybe look at some things from a different point of view.  Sometimes as they were following orders, you felt a little uncomfortable along with them, hoping they would do the right thing, and that others in the Agency would as well.

The absolute best part of this book was that the closer to end of the book you got, the harder it was to figure out how in the world this book could end, and didn’t have a clue as to whether or not it would be a happy ending or not.  I’m finished with the book, and I still can’t figure out if it was a happy ending, but it was definitely a GREAT ending.  I love being surprised, as it gets more and more difficult to be surprised, due to just how much paranormal/supernatural reading I do.  However, Alexia Purdy put her own original spin on this new supernatural series, and I have no doubt that with each book, she will most definitely keep my on my toes,  and I can not wait!

Antara washed her face, brushed her hair and changed into her own clothing from the bag Murphy had picked up. Emerging from the bedroom, she found the Irishman scooping baked beans out of a pot and heaping it onto three plates of decent looking toast. Ross was once again out on the balcony with his hands curled over the wrought iron railing and staring off into the distance. Not ready to deal with his particular brand of jackass, she padded barefoot over to the kitchen area and parked her butt on a stool at the long granite counter. Murphy pushed a plate toward her and then held out a knife and fork.

“You’ll feel better if you eat,” he advised.

Antara levelled a sceptical look at him after eying the orangey-brown mush on the toast. He tilted a lopsided grin in return and shrugged. “I’m no Gordon Ramsey, but it’ll fill a hole.”

She could point out the various ways a simple meal like beans on toast could be juiced up to restaurant quality, but, right now, she was starving and more than willing to chance whatever crap was put in front of her.

Foregoing the use of eating utensils, Murphy lifted the whole slice of toast from his plate and took a bite. After chewing for a while, he swallowed. “You know he’s trying to protect you, right?”

Antara glanced up from cutting a neat corner off of her toast and arched a brow. “Why? He doesn’t even know me. And if I need protecting from anything, it’s from him.”

Murphy’s attention skated over her head to the raven-haired male on the balcony.

“He can’t help it. It's uh,” he paused and, catching a sauced bean about to fall from his toast, licked his finger, “it's in his DNA.”

She frowned and ate the bite she’d cut off. “What is? Being an arsehole and scaring the shit out of a perfect stranger?”

Murphy muffled a gruff sound of amusement with another mouthful. “You’d think after all this time he’d be better with the charm stuff, eh? I’ve seen him smooth talk his way past kings, politicians and into the beds of queens. But you…” Murphy waved his toast at her, and a couple of beans slid off and landed on hers. “You came out of nowhere. You were the one kink in his plan he couldn’t anticipate,” he added and squared her with an unsettling stare.

Antara dropped her gaze and with the tip of her knife scraped the fallen offerings to the edge of her plate. Gross.

“If I’m cramping his style so damn much, then why won’t he let me go?”

“Because first, I need to know what you are,” came Ross’ voice followed by the sound of the glass door sliding closed behind him.

She hated the way the sound of him warmed her in places she didn’t want to think about right now.

“What I am,” she said, pushing her plate of half-eaten food away and swivelling around to give him the stink-eye, “is fairly sure you were raised by hyenas and have little to no social skills.”

Behind her, Murphy made a choking sound and coughed into a fist.

“What I am.” Antara slid off the stool and stalked over to where Ross was standing with his arms folded over his bared chest, fixing her with a narrowed look. “Is so over your fronting and thinking you’re all that, with your expensive car and your la-di-da apartment when your tattoo isn’t even real. Not to mention those creepy, glow-in-the-dark contact lenses of yours.”

An explosive splutter came from behind her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Murphy snort his coffee all over the granite counter.

Stopping a foot away from Ross, Antara gave him the thorough once over. “Sure. You’re a stud. Let's give you a round of applause for going to the gym and reading Men’s Health. Maybe if you tried to be nicer, you wouldn’t need cheap tricks to get a girl into your bed.”

Ross stood there, an implacable expression in place, eyes boring into her. If he expected her to fall to her knees and beg for his mercy, he had another thing coming.

In an even, quiet voice, he said only three words. “Murph. Catch her.”

~ BOOK REVIEW ~ TS901: Anomaly ~ by Stacey Rourke and Tish Thawer

Title: TS901: ANOMALY
Author: Stacey Rourke & Tish Thawer
Genre: NA Dystopian

Publisher: Anchor Group Publishing

Tainted water for the good of the people. Fluoride and vitamins to sustain the health of the human race. Added ingredients to extend and elevate the quality of life. All good things, right?

Thia Kelly has been changed by the TS901 chemical in the world’s water supply. Now, forced into hiding with the other inflicted outcasts, she struggles to survive as her powers emerge.

Evan Daniels hunted for others like himself, and finding Thia suddenly brought meaning back into his life. Love blossomed between the strange couple while they searched for a way to reverse the effects. Unfortunately, the Government had something else in mind.

Super-soldier creation on a mass scale was their end goal, and thanks to an unfortunate family tie, Evan became Patient #1.

Good-guy? Bad-guy? The world isn’t sure, but Thia is left with only one choice––save the ass of the world’s first Anomaly who just happens to be her boyfriend.

5 out of 5 stars!

What could POSSIBLY go wrong when the government decides “adding a few things for our own good” to our drinking water is a good idea?? We wonder that constantly, and these authors do a fabulous job at showing not only what exactly could go terribly wrong, but how much worse it can get when they don’t stop there.

What happens when some people are not affected by the additive in the water, and others are?  Well…when those that are affected have some pretty incredible physical changes, almost turning them into many different variations of the paranormal creatures we love to READ about in books, they are of course treated like something to be scared of in real life.  They’re outcasts, only allowed to live in certain areas.

I love how the authors really hit home with how human nature would really work.  We all like to think we’d treat people equally no matter what, but when something like this happens, human nature’s reaction almost always results in fear, followed by poor choices; and it not totally out there to assume that the military would also go the wrong route with making things worse instead of better.

However, human nature also involves fighting back, and not allowing anyone to judge and repress them for long.  If you accidentally got special powers that you didn’t ask for, but were still the same person on the inside, you would fight to keep your old life, or at the very least to be left alone.

Thia was the person that wanted to blend into the shadows, but she also knew things were going to keep getting worse, and the people she had cared for and became family would eventually be in danger.  She also knew her ex, “patient 1” was not what they were saying on the news, and proving that, while saving her friends would be the answer.  I loved that she embarked on this journey with very little confidence, with a very small group of friends, and did it anyway because it had to be done, and she was one of the few that could do it.  I also like that we didn’t know until the end of the book what made her so “special”.  She wasn’t your typical “kick ass from the beginning” character – she was more forced into the roll.

This book was such a quick read for me.  I devoured it, because I love these types of books so much, there was so much action, and constant questions and answers coming up, I couldn’t put it down.  I really look forward to finding out what the next step is for this group!

~ BOOK REVIEW ~ Guarding Eden ~ by Cameo Renae

Title: Guarding Eden (A Midway Novel)
Author: Cameo Renae
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publisher: CHBB
Cover Designer: Stefanie Saw
Hosted by: Lady Amber's PR

***The Midway Novels are spin-offs of the Hidden Wings Series, but each book can be read as a standalone.***

Tucked away at an upscale, private boarding school in Brindle Hollow, Washington, seventeen-year-old Eden East comes face to face with a hideous creature on her walk back to her dorm. Shaken to her core, she's left questioning the world around her, and soon finds herself entering a friendship with a hot, new student named Alexander.

Little does she know, Alex is a Guardian Angel, sent from Midway to protect her from those dangerous creatures—known as Darkling—lurking in the forest outside Brindle Hall. It isn’t long before Alex learns this is no ordinary assignment. Eden’s existence holds a secret; something hidden from even herself.

Eden is thrust into a world where Fallen angels and creatures of the Underworld will stop at nothing to catch her. With Alex at her side and a little help from some of his old friends, they form a formidable front against the enemy.

Hopefully, it’s not too little, too late.

2 days.  I read this book in 2 days.  The only reason it took me that long was because things like ‘sleep’ and ‘responsibility’ kept getting in my way.  As a huge Hidden Wings fan, I majorly had my hopes up about this book, and KNEW I would not be disappointed. Cameo Renae does not write bad books.  It’s the easiest decision in the world which book to pick up if one of those choices is her book.

I was super curious to find out how the Hidden Wings world would continue, yet this new series could also be read as a standalone. I was very happy and very impressed with how she worked all of that out.  As someone who had never read the Hidden Wings series, she wrote just enough to explain the basics of how her world was built, yet at the same time, it wasn’t too much explaining for those of us that have already read the Hidden Wings series. As a new reader, or a reader familiar with the previous series, I assure you that you will be equally sucked in.

Her world building and character building are always so smooth and perfect, and it takes no time to feel like you’ve been with these people forever, and they’re all your good friends.  And speaking of these friends, before Alex showed up, Eden already had a pretty awesome group of good ones that she had been going to her private school with for 4 years by this point.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much I LOVED one of her best friends, Sebastian!  His personality and humor stood out like no other, and I couldn’t get enough of him.  I would love to see a book – even just a novella – where he and Dom (who also makes a few appearances in the book only in the way Dom can) have to work together for some reason.  I’m sure it would be a book I’d be laughing all the way through!

As for Alex and Eden, they have the absolute sweetest relationship.  It has to be really hard for an author to write about two people that meet -- one of them getting thrown into a world that they thought was nothing more than fairytale just a few days before -- and then have them build a relationship of trust in such a short period of time.  As a guardian angel, it’s Alex’s job to build trust, but he usually has more than a few weeks. He certainly wasn’t expecting it to go as well as it did.  Not only that, it was fully believable as a reader.  I have no idea how Cameo Renae does it!  I’m usually so incredibly skeptical of quick relationship and/or trust building, but it worked so well. Eden quickly trusted Alex, his old friends, and everything he said about what was happening to her – and it all felt completely natural to the reader.  And as a girl that grew up without a father, she even ends up finding out who he is through all of this.  I’m not sure if it was more emotional for her, or for those of us reading it!

I’m so, so very happy Cameo Renae started her new series based on a story about Alex and Eden. This was definitely the perfect choice.  I can’t wait to see who’s next, and what challenges they will face.  Hopefully we’ll get to see a glimpse of what our new friends from this book are up to as well.
