BOOK REVIEW ~ The Darkest Stars ~ by Debbie Cassidy

The Darkest Stars
by Debbie Cassidy

Blurb:

You know life’s getting complicated when crash landing on an unknown planet becomes the least of your worries.

I’ve spent most my adult life avoiding flesh and blood attachments. Life’s easier without another heart to care for. So, when the Gateway Federation asks me to retrieve a mysterious pod from a lethal asteroid belt, the last thing I expect is to end up on the run with a feral male who needs to rut, feed, and fight every four weeks, and a mech angel, who looks at me with stars in his eyes.

Okay, so I may have stolen the pod, and the mech angel may have been inside it, but heck, Gateway should know better than to trust a breacher who lives by the motto of finders keepers.

Now I’m having to play buffer between my robo dog and my ship, while they argue over karaoke tracks, as well as doing my best to avoid getting attached to the two overpowering males onboard my vessel.

Crash landing on an unknown planet is simply the icing on the cake.

Join Nova, our badass heroine in this Why Choose Space Romantasy adventure, filled with banter, action, and just the right amount of yearning.

My Review:
Rating: 💘💘💘💘💘

Full disclosure, I'm usually pretty hesitant about books that take place in space. For a myriad of reasons, I always find something I don't like, but if they're done right, I love them. This one? I love it! It's the ideal set-up for what will clearly be a super great series.

Kick-ass heroine, chip on her shoulder, and her two best (and only) friends are a mechanical dog and her ship brought to life with AI. Cassidy easily packs in multiple stories from Nova's past that leave readers wanting to know more, while she's running from part of it, and against the protection she wanted to keep around her heart, finds others she brings along on her journey that wiggle into her heart. Especially Naxon, who comes with his own secrets, but is also genetically unable to lie. Every character is immediately endearing and incredibly unique, so readers will not only want to learn more about Nova's story, but theirs too.

I can't wait to find out what happens next as Nova and friends search for answers about her past on a planet she knows little about, other than how dangerous it is, there's magic that makes infusing mechanical and human parts together possible, and it's likely the planet she came from.
